Time: 2-3 50 minute class periods...depending on the time you allow to research and the pace of the student's writing

Guided Questions: 1. What is a sustainable material? 2. What should a sustainable playground include? 3. What are the benefits of a sustainable playground within a community? (think about those using it)
Lesson Plan: 1. Watch the following videos on sustainable playgrounds and research possible products on the following sites: Planning a Sustainable Park Designs for Green Playgrounds Eco Friendly Playgrounds 2. As a class, brainstorm items that we may want to include in our park, along with the things that will allow a variety of people to benefit from the park. Record these ideas on the Smart Board. 3. From the class list created above, choose three specific points (ex. recreation, safe for kids, exercise) that you want to stress in your letter, and create a T-chart to organize your writing (intro, 3 key stars with details, conclusion). 4. Review the layout of a friendly letter (Heading, Greeting, 3 Body Paragraphs, Closing, Signature).
5. Complete a rough draft of your letter and edit with a classmate. 6. Create your final copy of your letter using a Microsoft Word document. 7. When finished, take a picture of yourself using Kidpix, then create a 1 minute speech using the Web 2.0 tool, Blabberize. Focus on the key points that your Township Supervisor needs to hear to be persuaded to permit the sustainable park.
